UT Austin funds 11 early research projects
UT Austin awarded New Directions in Research seed grants to 11 faculty projects. Each grant provides up to $60,000 for early work meant to support future outside funding bids.

The one time grants come from the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors. The selected projects cover artificial intelligence in historical research, geothermal energy, microplastics, gravitational wave modeling, dementia, pediatric brain tumor family support, cardiac tissue repair and critical mineral separation.
Several projects connect UT research with Austin area institutions and issues, including work with Dell Children's Medical Center on support for families of pediatric brain tumor patients. Other faculty teams will use seed funding to gather data and test ideas before seeking larger grants.
