Austin Spurs fans pack Chalmers for finals opener
Spurs fans gathered at Chalmers in East Austin for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. The Knicks won 105 to 95, but the event showed how much the San Antonio team has built support in Austin.
Chalmers hosted an official Spurs watch party in East Austin as San Antonio opened the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. A storm soaked part of the outdoor crowd, but fans still filled the bar in Spurs colors for a team chasing its first championship since 2014.
The Austin turnout reflects years of Spurs outreach north of San Antonio, including murals, renovated courts, fan buses, Moody Center games under the I-35 Series and ties to the Austin Spurs in Cedar Park. Chalmers is hosting watch parties for Spurs home games in the finals, while Armadillo Den is hosting away game events.
