Austin ISD police chief injured in motorcycle collision

Austin ISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed was injured Wednesday night during an official motorcade operation. Police said he was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Austin ISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed was hurt around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday in a collision involving two police motorcycles. The crash happened near U.S. 290 westbound and the MoPac service road ramp near Southwest Parkway during an official motorcade operation.

Sneed has led Austin ISD's police department since 2022 and previously worked in the district's mental health and community engagement unit. Austin ISD said it is hoping for his strong recovery and thanked first responders and community members for support.
