Austin ISD teachers, staff and parents urged district leaders Thursday night to rethink a budget plan that could affect 558 positions. The proposal is part of the district's effort to reduce a possible $181 million shortfall for the 2026 to 2027 school year.

The plan includes moving 112 teachers, changing librarian and counselor coverage, raising elementary class ratios, reducing transportation, and changing stipends for special education and bilingual educators. Speakers objected to library and arts program cuts, while trustees questioned whether a proposed middle and high school hub transportation model could hurt safety, attendance or enrollment.
