The National Weather Service placed parts of western Williamson County and northeastern Burnet County under a flash flood warning at 5:45 p.m. Friday, with Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill and Florence among the communities in the alert area. The warning was set to run until 10 p.m. after storms had dropped 2 to 3 inches of rain, with more expected.

Much of the Austin metro was also under a flood watch through 1 a.m. Saturday, including Travis, Hays and Williamson counties. Drivers were urged to avoid flooded roads because water can rise quickly during heavy rainfall.
