UT Austin has appointed Daniel Hamlin as the next dean of the College of Education, with his term beginning Aug. 16. Hamlin is Oklahoma's secretary of education, a Presidential Professor of education policy at the University of Oklahoma and director of the Oklahoma Center for Education Policy.

Hamlin will succeed Charles Martinez, who has led the college since 2019 and will return to the faculty. The change matters locally because the college trains educators and conducts research tied to schools, health and sport across Texas.
