CapMetro Bikeshare remains shut down after fire
CapMetro has pulled nearly 500 electric bikes from Austin streets while investigators review a fire at its Ben White Boulevard facility. The agency has not given a timeline for restoring Bikeshare service.

A forensic investigator is looking at whether lithium ion batteries played a role in the May 23 fire at CapMetro's facility at Ben White Boulevard and Judson Road. Nearly 40 Austin firefighters responded, and fire crews later found a battery charging room inside the building.
The service pause affects at least 76 docking stations around UT, downtown, East Austin and neighborhoods south of downtown. CapMetro has hired Rimkus to examine the cause, and officials said they want answers before putting the bikes back in service.
